Yggdrasil is a vast and dense forest stretching for thousands of miles across the Eastern Continent - one of few places where the artifice of civilization has yet to spread. It is home to many diverse creatures - some native, some taking refuge to avoid extinction after their homelands were overrun or destroyed by the rise of industrialization. It is also home to the sylvans, a race of plant-like beings.

The sylvans, who consider themselves the custodians of the natural world, are at odds with those who they feel threaten the sanctity of nature. For this reason they are very rarely seen outside of Yggdrasil. For the past several centuries, Yggdrasil has also become home to many of the Elves, after they abandoned their Ancient Empire for unknown reasons to live closer to nature.

What few people know about Yggdrasil is that it is not merely a forest - but rather it is all one tree - the "World Tree" - its roots and branches stretching and curling, digging and erupting, interwoven into the land. It is even said that some of its roots penetrate the Veneer, stretching from the Material Plane to the Dreaming.

Furthermore, the heart of Yggdrasil is claimed to be one of the few "Gates" between the realms. The sylvans - practitioners of natural magic - have coaxed, nurtured, and manipulated Yggdrasil to serve as a living city and stronghold. In addition to its many physical barriers and guardians, Yggdrasil is protected from invasion by a strange mist, the density of which changes to misdirect or repel outsiders, and requires a special magic to see or pass through...
